Remembering A Friend

From Cathy Haddad

May 23, 2012 By //  by mco

I am a friend from curves of Bob’s mom, Carol. We are grieving with her and praying for everyone who has endured this great loss. Though I didn’t know Bob personally it is wonderful to hear and read about a man who volunteered his time for the less fortunate. God bless you all..

Accomplished man with a huge heart

May 22, 2012 By //  by mco

Dear Carol and Kim,
My heart aches for both of you as well as Bob’s wife and family. I met Bob at your retirement party, Carol. I knew he had traveled across the country to be there for you. I thought what a wonderful man to make time to share in your special event. I enjoyed all the fun stories you used to share about him when we worked together at Salem. He was an accomplished man with a huge heart and you had every right to “brag” about him. Try to hold onto your memories and keep the faith of God’s eternal promise that you will see him again some day.
With deepest sympathy,
Sue Gibson

Great Loss to the Immigration Justice Project

May 22, 2012 By //  by mco

Dear Friends,

Bob was an incredibly enthusiastic and helpful member of the Advisory Board of the American Bar Association Immigration Justice Project. He willingly reached out to dozens of his colleagues as part of the Fundraising Committee, and took on direct representation of pro bono clients himself through the Project. We will greatly miss his leadership, enthusiasm and friendship.

To honor Bob’s contributions, we will be creating an award in his honor for the outstanding pro bono attorney of the year. The first annual Robert Gerber Memorial Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service by an Individual Attorney will be awarded to a deserving pro bono attorney at our fall event this year.

Sincerely,
Ginger Jacobs
Advisory Board of the Immigration Justice Project

SATELLITE 1980

May 22, 2012 By //  by mco

I had the honor and pleasure to know Bob in high school. During our junior and senior years we worked together on the Satellite our schools yearbook! Our senior year Bob was Editor-in-Cheif. Putting together the larest single yearbok in the state of Michigan with 392 pages our senior year.

The job was not easy, However with Bob as our leader it got done! When Bob asked you just could not say NO so a few of us spent many a weekend, and Christmas and Easter vacations doing the job! Bob made every minute of it fun! I still remember it like it was yesterday!

Bob and I were good friends and I loved him dearly! I had the honor to be asked to our senior prom by him!

Sadly that was not to happen, Bob got pretty sick toward the end of our senior year so he was unable to attend! He felt so bad he asked his friend Patt to take me! At our 30th reunion I had the pleasure of meeting his beauiful wife Shelley They were so happy and just perfect for each other! My husband Greg and Bob and Shelly laughed about our memory of not being able to go to prom, We decided that Bob and I should have our “prom dance” at the reunion. I was so happy and so very greatful to Shelley for allowing that to happen! Now more than ever! Thankyou again Shelley!

Bob was truly one of kind man! I am honored and proud to have known him and call him my friend!
I will miss you!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Gerber family! Godspeed all of you!
Love, Penny

One heck of a dancer

May 21, 2012 By //  by mco

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Bob and Shelley dance at our 2008 Del Mar Office Holiday Party. The two of them were amazing out there on that floor and Bob was the life of the party (as usual, so I’m told) . . . . before anyone knew it, half the office was line dancing!! That is how I will remember Bob.

“I’ll always be with you”

May 21, 2012 By //  by mco

Dear Shelley and the Kids,
We are so Sad for your loss and hope through GOD grace and love you”ll have the peace and strength to celebrate Bob’s Life. Please find comfort with this….
I am always with you
When I’m gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you’ve given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I traveled on alone
So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must
Then let your grieve be comforted by trust
That it is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I will be near
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear
All my love around you soft and clear
And then, when you come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile and a “Welcome Home”

Love,
Farida, Chris and the boys (Austin, Quinn and Cameron)

Neighborhood friend

May 20, 2012 By //  by mco

Bob and my son, Mark, were always thinking up pranks as they enjoyed Schwietzer Elem, Stevenson Jr. High and John Glann HS. Their adventures and compeitions always amazed Carol and me. We often enjoy the memories of watching them grown into great young men: Bob with his silver trumpet and Mark on the drums made some adventures a challenge. He so loved his baby sister Kim, son Alex, and Leah. Bob will be missed.
